The Gogos club took part in a top 4 tournament that was staged in Pretoria, in Mamelodi Township, on October 1.
The excited gogos said Maggie “Vuvuzela” Mndaweni scored the first and only goal for Ivory Gogos FC in the first game.
“The first game was tough. We were playing against the first group of Soweto Gogos and we drew 1-1. We proceeded to the penalty shootout where we won 4-2,” said the club’s chairwoman, Christinah “Khama Billiat” Dlamini.
She said in their second and final game, they were up against the second group of Soweto Gogos.
“The first half of the final game was also tough but in the second half it became easy. The game took shape and it became easy. We beat the second group of Soweto Gogos and we were the overall winners,” said Ivory Gogos FC’s coach, Mr Brian Mabale.
The score for the final game was 3-0, in favour of Ivory Gogos FC.
The three goals were scored by Christinah “Khama Billiat” Dlamini, Portia “Shoes” Dlamini and Frieda “General” Dlamini respectively.
“We are happy about our performance in the tournament, even though it was difficult,” said Christinah “Khama Billiat” Dlamini.
She said Ivory Gogos FC is appealing to Ivory Park and Tembisa residents to give them their undivided support.
“They must come and watch our games. We also appeal for a sponsor because we don’t have proper soccer kit and transport to games,” said chairwoman Dlamini.
