Ward 7 FC: The kings of Kasi soccer

Ward 7 FC proves to be king of Kasi soccer on the dusty field.

Ward 7 Football Club (FC) has yet again won a top eight tournament over the weekend to prove their undisputed skill on the pitch.

The team’s coach Stanley Ngoene said their first game was a tough one because the team they were playing had beaten them two times in previous tournaments.

“Our game with Black Birds was a high-scoring game and we managed to win 3-2. We drew 3-3 the first time we played them and we lost 5-4 on penalties. The second time we played them, they beat us 3-2 on the field,” said Stanley.

He said during the weekend’s tournament they played against Petros “Shoes” Sehlapelo’s team, Lesibe Academy, in the final leg of the top eight tournament.

“In the first 10 minutes the game started very slowly but gained momentum as it proceeded.

“The slow pace was a result of fatigue.

“15 minutes into the game, the opponents scored a goal against us and five minutes after that, Ward 7 FC’s Rooi scored an equalizing goal,” he explained.

The score was 1-1 and Ward 7 FC started putting pressure on the opponents and by the end of the first half, the score was 1-1 without any substitutions.

In the second half of the game, Ward 7 FC changed its game formation from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 which resulted in three strikers fighting to acquire goals for Ward 7 FC.

Stanley said the new formation gave Ward 7 FC’s back players an opportunity to overlap and the strategy did deliver as ‘the General’ scored a second goal twenty minutes after kick-off of the second half.

Immediately after that, goal Ward 7 FC had their first substitute when they took out Sello and brought in Bush to the field.

Ten minutes after the first substitute, Ward 7 FC had another double substitution when Manuel replaced Lesedi and

Rooi was taken out to give Jerry an opportunity to be on the field.

Manuel scored Ward 7 FC’s third goal with his first touch after taking to the field.

When the final whistle blew, the score was 3-1 in favor of Ward 7 FC.

Stanley said they want to thank Ward 7 FC’s sponsors Hlanganani Protecting for providing them with the soccer kit.
