Smatsatsa FC victorious in top-four tournament

Smatsatsa FC emerges victorious in a top-four tournament.

Four teams locked horns at Phomolong Sport Centre in a top-four tournament over the weekend.

Smatsatsa FC emerged victorious after staging a beautiful football spectacle in the two games they had on the day. Smatsatsa FC’s coach Sfiso Khumalo said their first game was against Malibogo FC and said the game was very easy.

“We were attacking strong and at the end of the first half, the score was 0-0 with no substitution. In the second half I had to strengthen our middle field because it was struggling,” said Khumalo. Bova was taken out to make way for Phillip who became a super substitute as he scored the first goal of the game in few touches of his entrance.

“It was a strategic move and it worked to our advantage. The second goal was scored by Vovo and that goal came as a mistake that was committed by the opponent’s goalkeeper. While we were leading 2-0, the opponents were awarded a penalty and they used that opportunity and scored their goal,” said Khumalo. When the final whistle blew the score was 2-1 in favor of Smatsatsa FC.

In their second game, Smatsatsa FC was tipped against Klipfontein FC. “Now that was a difficult game because the opponents were pushing hard on us, their attack was strong. Our goalkeeper saved a lot of goals. We did not have any substitution in the first half because we needed to assess the game and kept players until the end of the first half. At the end of the first half, the score was 0-0. Again we noticed that our middle field was suffering and it was not balanced,” explained Khumalo.

Roger came out to give Willy an opportunity to contribute on the pitch. “As soon as our middle field was balanced we started to attack and made strategic ball passes that threatened the opponent. Our opponent was lacking in their right back. We took advantage of their weakness and put more pressure on them.

“Jomo created a goal by hitting a cross goal. Jack used the opportunity and made a volley kick of the ball and scored in the top corner and it was a goal. We were then leading 1-0 and we started defending”.

Both teams couldn’t score any more goals and at end of the final game, the score was 1-0 in favor of Smatsatsa FC.
