Boys and girls invited to join football academy

Tembisa-based Aaron Mhlongo is calling on young boys and girls to join his Excellent Football Academy.

“I am recruiting youngsters into my academy to train them in football so that one day they could be selected to play for professional teams,” said Mhlongo. “My aim is to develop youngsters in football and produce excellent players who will put Tembisa on the map. Boys must be born from 2001 to 2012, and girls must be from 1999 to 2006.”

Mhlongo, who has coached a number of local teams, said he has seen that Tembisa has great talent in football.

“It has always been my passion to develop young people in football and make sure that their talent is recognised. We’ve got great players, but they just do not get the right channels to follow in order to utilise their talent. My primary objective is to produce world-class footballers that would represent Mzansi at international level.”

Mhlongo emphasised that it is imperative for young people to join this type of academy and to refrain from using drugs or alcohol.

“We are encouraging young people to stop criminal behaviour and consider taking part in sports or any other activities which will help shape up their lives.”

Excellent Football Academy training sessions take place at the Olifantsfontein Sports Facilities from Mondays to Friday from 3pm to 5.30pm, with games being played on weekends.

So far, the academy has recommended several players into the Jomo Cosmos Academy, Alexandra Black Aces Academy and Wits Juniors.

“I am aiming to register the girls’ team under the Absa Women’s Regional League,” Mhlongo added.
