WATCH: Dirt bikers take to the track at Inland Club Championship

Kids as young as four years old were jumping metres in the air with their small bikes.

Hundreds of dirt bike enthusiasts came together at ERORA on Saturday to celebrate the second leg of the Inland Club Championships.

The track was barely visible by 2pm, as it crawled with bikers. Those not on their bikes were either at food stalls, looking at biking-merchandise or finding shade from the sun under a sea of gazebos.

Here they watched riders as young as four years old speed past curbs and jump over hills. These little speeders showed no fear but some of their parents did.

A highlight of the day was when these little ones started their race. After a black and white checkered flag sent them off, about 20 dads ran after their racers to ensure their safety.

Erora’s secretary told Express that people at these races form a community. “Everybody enjoys it. Especially the kids, they love it.”

The event lasted until 4pm, after which a prize-giving took place.

In the four to seven-year-old category, Logan Lloyd came third, Kyle de Kreek second and Juliono Caeiro first.

The seven to nine-year-old category saw Kyle de Kreek take third place, Damien Venter second and Christian Berrington-Smith first.

The eight to 13-year-olds’ winners were Cody Botha in third place, Nathan Kuhn in second and Lukas Venter in first.

In the category for 10 to 15-year-olds, Callan Broskie was third, Mark Anthony Phillip second and Nate McEllan first.

The teenagers between 13 and 19 years old were beaten by Reid Moser in third place, Mark Carty in second and Jono Mlimi in first.

In the adult category, between 30 and 45 years old, Amanda Arnold took third place, Darryl Hancock second and Jonathan du Plooy first.

The next event is on July 15.

Catch me if you can. The racers don’t hold back, even when going downhill.
