De Abreu is Kempton Golf Club’s 2019 club champion

While the Masters Tournament was underway, Kempton’s own golf masters were at play.

BWhile golf legend Tiger Woods made one of the greatest sporting comebacks to date in an epic Masters triumph on Sunday, Kempton Park golfers were well underway with their own championship.

Kempton Park Golf Club held its annual club championships on April 13 and 14.

“It’s been a busy weekend, let’s get to it,” club captain Hannes Beeslaar welcomed the players at the club’s prize-giving on Sunday evening while the lads stole glimpses of Tiger on the big screen.

However, the attention soon shifted to local player Dino de Abreu, who was named club champion after he shot a one-under-par score of 143 over his two rounds. De Abreu was also named the winner of the mid-amateurs. Brendon Blake was runner-up with his score of 146.

Golfer Jordan Wilsenach (20) won the A division of Kempton Park Golf Club’s club championships. He was also third runner-up overall.

The A division saw Jordan Wilsenach named winner with his 148 and third runner-up.

Golf is clearly a family affair for the Wilsenach family, as younger brother Jonathan was named winner of the juniors with a score of 153 and dad Craig took first place in the senior division with 180.

Clint Carey was second in the A division with 149. He also took fourth runner-up overall.

Riaan Coetzee’s score of 162 led to his win in the B division and Ian Bester took second place with 167.

Derek Plotz was named winner in the C division with his score of 70 and Gerrie Cloete was runner-up with his 66.

Super senior Lance Froneman was the man to beat in his division with a score of 171.

Young talent Jonathan Wilsenach’s (14) score of 153 made him winner of the juniors. His brother Jordan was third overall and dad Craig proved his sons got their golf talent from him after being named winner of the senior division.
