Hat-trick for Verenga in KPFCS’s 5-3 victory over Musa United

Kempton Park Football Club’s ILFA Super League first team moved up to second place on the log after a fabulous 5-3 victory over Musa United on Saturday.

Kempton took the lead in the third minute when Zivai Verenga brought a Sello Phumlani cross under control to score.

It didn’t take long for a classy Musa United side to respond, and on seven minutes a long ball deceived Sandile Gamede and Michael Letsiro and Musa finished the move with a well struck goal.

Kempton roared back and just four minutes later, Kempton were in front again when Ociano Pretorius swept home at the back post.

In the 29th minute, Verenga, with his back to the goal, spun around his marker and bore down on the goal to score in the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Three minutes later Verenga had his hat-trick and 18th for the season when he headed a fine Sello cross to make it 4-1.

Musa never gave up and pulled a goal back late in the half when Wilson hesitated on a long ball and it was easily side-footed home. A breathtaking first half ended 4-2.

Things began brightly when Pretorius looped a header over the Musa netminder to extend the lead to three once more.

The sole breakthrough came in the 71st minute when Musa tapped in at the back post to make it 5-3.

Another three points bagged for Kempton and with arch rivals Old Bens the visitors at Kempton on Saturday, coach John Mann is hoping for more of the same.

In the ILFA Reserve League the Kempton reserves fell to their fourth defeat in a row, going down to Musa United 3-1.

Despite having the majority of possession and territory, chance after chance was squandered and they found themselves 3-0 down before Paballo Ngcobi scored a late penalty.

The Kempton Park SAB Castle League side secured their status for next season with a nail-biting 1-0 win over Shumba last week Thursday.

Head coach Eddie Dista was delighted, not only with the result but with the season as a whole.

Kempton have one game to play against league champions Luso Africa and hope to secure a top eight finish with a victory.

In the Easterns Division 1 league, Kempton’s third team recorded their first win of the season with a thumping 6-1 victory over bottom side Edenvale B on Saturday.

Two wins in a week put the Kempton fourth side top of the Eastern Division 3 league.

A midweek 6-0 thrashing of Old Bens with three goals from Warren Gardner, two from Dimitri Koukouzellis and another by Darren Smith was followed by a 1-0 win over CBC on Saturday, with Koukouzellis netting for the boys in red.

U-6 beat Linhill 11-0, u-7A beat Alberton 5-2, u-7B lost to Corinthians 3-2, u-8 beat Balfour Park 4-1, u-9 lost to Sunward Park 1-0, u-10 beat Bellevue 3-2, u-12 beat Old Bens 10-0, u-13 lost to Elsburg 3-1, u-15A beat Bonaero 8-1, u-17 beat Boksburg 3-1.
