Khanyisa on track to retain his SA title

He was awarded the trophy for the best boxer at the championships for his performance.

Katlego Khanyisa, a boxer from Kempton Park Boxing Club, is on track to retain his South African welterweight title he won at last year’s South African Championships.

He once again won the Gauteng welterweight title at the Gauteng Elite Championships in Pretoria the past weekend.

He dominated the weight division and easily beat Phumi Cele from Gauteng West on points in the semi-finals and Ivano Kabane with a knock-out in the second round in the finals.

He was awarded the trophy for the best boxer at the championships for his performance.

Khanyisa will now represent Gauteng at the South African Elite Championships from July 2 to 7. The coach of the club, Peter Armstrong, was also selected as a coach of the Gauteng team.

The boxing club is training hard for the 2019 season and looking for young boys and girls, as well as men and women, who would be interested in participating in boxing competitions.

Training takes place at Kempton Park Indoor Sports Centre from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Anyone interested can contact Armstrong on 074 646 9095 or 082 485 6640.
