Kempton boxers pack a punch at development tournament

The club trains at Kempton Park Indoor Sport Centre on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm.

Danny In’T Veld of Kempton Park Boxing Club stole the show at the recent Gauteng Boxing Development Tournament at Alberton Boxing Club.

Danny (8), weighing only 21kg, boxed like a seasoned boxer during his first fight as he easily beat EV Marick (Booysens Boxing Club) on points over three rounds.

“Danny has a huge future in boxing as does his twin brother, Conner, who, unfortunately, did not get an opponent,” said Peter Armstrong, chief coach and chairperson of Kempton Park Boxing Club.

Topaz van Zyl was equally impressive when he also participated in his first fight and won a close points decision against AH Williams from Cosmos Boxing Club in Johannesburg. Williams is a very strong boxer, but at the end, van Zyl’s superior boxing skills made the difference and the judges awarded him the decision after three hard-fought rounds.

Wilson Malema faught against XT de Bruin from Brakpan Boxing Club for his fifth fight. The two boxers had met on a previous occasion, when Malema came out the winner.

This time it was again a close encounter and Malema was slightly unlucky not to be declared the winner as the judges decided at the end of the three rounds that his opponent had won the fight on points.
