Nova’s coach JD to head up national team
He is excited about the challenge and believes that in the end all the sacrifices and hard work will pay off.
Mixed Martial Arts South Africa recently had its annual national team squad selection.
This team will represent South Africa in the World Championships in Bahrain in November.
Coach JD du Plessis from NOVA Academy in Glen Marais has been chosen to be the national team manager and head coach. Du Plessis has been extensively involved in the national team for the past three years.
Coach Andries Schutte is also part of Nova Academy and was chosen to be one of the assisting coaches of the national team. He has great knowledge and experience in wrestling as he was previously an Olympic wrestler.
Du Plessis says there lies a lot of challenges ahead for them as coaches, as the national team is made up of athletes from KZN to Johannesburg. Regular team training sessions need to be held in order to create a great team spirit and an attitude of gratitude before they depart for Bahrain in a few months’ time.
