Local sensei leads by example at championships

Sensei Prinsloo is a hard-working and dedicated karateka

Leading by example is often far easier said than done, but The Dojo Kempton Park sensei Amy Prinsloo made it look effortless.

Prinsloo, who has a third-dan black belt, competed in the annual Shotokan Karate South Africa National Championships in Cape Town in May and received six medals and two trophies.

“Prinsloo came home with gold medals in female unison kata, female individual kata, best senior female kata and best overall senior female karateka. She received a silver medal for female kumite and a bronze for female shotokan cup,” said senior instructor at The Dojo Kempton Park sensei Janien Potgieter.

Potgieter said Prinsloo was also awarded two trophies for best senior female kata and best overall senior female karateka.

“Sensei Prinsloo is a hard-working and dedicated karateka who also assists me with instructing at the dojo. She started karate at the age of 13, and I immediately saw her natural talent,” said Potgieter.

Other members from the local club who competed in the championship were sensei Potgieter and Winrie Kruger.
