Entries for popular Tembisa Mile are streaming in

Mathipa said this year’s instalment will incorporate the 1 Mile Road Championships.

Just two months away from the annual Tembisa Mile spectacle, over 500 entries have already been received.

Speaking to this paper about the race’s latest developments, Donald Mathipa said even though they have received more entries, space is still available.

“We are flooded with more and more entries on a daily basis, but there is space for more,” said Mathipa.

He said the interest shown by the public has been overwhelming.

“This only proves that the race is growing by the day. We are expecting a record-breaking 3 000 athletes by the first week of September,” said Mathipa.

Proudly sponsored by SPAR North Rand, City of Ekurhuleni’s Department of Sports and Recreation, Leso Estate and Zamokuhle Private Hospital and endorsed by the Central Gauteng Athletics, this race carries prize money of R3 000.

Mathipa said this year’s instalment will incorporate the 1 Mile Road Championships.

“The 1 Mile registration fee for boys and girls u-10, 13, 15 and 19 is R50,” he said.

Entries can be submitted online at www.tembisamile.co.za.

The registration fee for the 10km is R110 for Athletics Club members. Non-club members will be required to purchase a temporary licence for R30.

The event will start at Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre next to Makhulong Stadium at 7am and finish there too.
