Fat Cats Athletics Club will add a huge feather to its pioneering cap when the club hosts its maiden race at Waterfall Park at Mall of Africa in October.

The club has secured the venue to host its inaugural 10km race meeting on October 13. The race is sanctioned by Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) and will comprise a 10km race, 5km fun run, 1.6km kitten miler and 250m nappy dash.

“Hosting an event of this nature is integral to our vision, as Fat Cats aims to assume a leading role in changing the outlook of road running in South Africa,” said chairperson Refiloe Rakwena.

Commenting on the 10km route, technical lead Bongani Bilankulu said they have leveraged on the location to design a fairly challenging and scenic route for runners.

“The route will give runners a taste of Waterfall’s notorious hills, while also allowing a glimpse of the best views of Waterfall City. Starting at Waterfall Park at Mall of Africa, runners will head to Woodmead via the R55 and return to the mall via Old Pretoria Road,” said Bilankulu.

The 10km race will start at 7am, followed by the 5km fun run at 7.20am, nappy dash at (250m) at 9am and kitten miler (1.6km) at 9.20am.
