Tiny twins remain undefeated in the boxing ring
Interested boxers can join the club in January next year.
Kempton Park Boxing Club ended the year on a high note at the final tournaments of the year when four of the club’s boxers won their fights.
The In’T Velt twins, Danny and Connor (8), continued to impress and are undefeated in the boxing ring after four fights each.
Connor (21kg) was very impressive in beating Michael Mgidi from Thunder Boxing Club in Boksburg. Mgidi was the much more experienced boxer and already had 10 fights compared to the three of Connor.
Connor, however, showed his class and won on unanimous points decision.
Danny (22kg) came up against Tristan Britz from Iron Fist Boxing Club in Roodepoort. Danny is a very clever boxer and completely outclassed Britz and won on a wide points’ margin.
“They both have a bright future in the boxing ring and 2020 should be a very good year for the twins,” said Peter Armstrong, chief coach and chairperson of the club.
Okuhle Mlamla (15), having his second fight, was matched against Christian Esterhuisen from Booysens Boxing Club in the 69kg weight division. Mlamla is a very strong and skillful boxer and completely dominated the boxer from the Booysens club.
The referee stopped the fight in the first round, saving Esterhuisen from taking further punishment. Mlamla has now stopped both his opponents and a lot is expected of him in 2020, said Armstrong.
After a four-year layoff, Jesse Bekker (24) returned to the boxing ring and had his second fight. Bekker (86kg) came up against Makalima Xolani (94kg) from Zondi Boxing Club in Soweto. This was a thrilling encounter with both boxers landing some heavy punches, but at the end of the three rounds Bekker had the edge and won on a close points decision.
Kempton Park Boxing Club will be closing shortly for the December holidays and will reopen on January 7. Anybody interested in joining Kempton Park Boxing Club can contact Armstrong on 074 646 9095 or 082 485 6640.
