Tembisa Sporting won the women’s soccer tournament played at Reagile Primary School in Winnie Mandela Section on November 16.

The first semi-final saw Super Gauteng taking on Liverpool and the second semi-final saw Sporting taking on Pebetsi and Smiley Ladies.

The semi-final between Liverpool and Super Gauteng produced fireworks, with Super Gauteng beating Liverpool 2-0.

In the second semi-final, Kgabo Mpheroane of Sporting kicked out Pebetsi and Smiley Ladies 5-4 on penalties, after a two-all draw at full time.

Sporting captain Hope Masimula scored two goals.

During the penalty phase, Sporting goalkeeper Tshepiso Matlwa managed to save one penalty, while her team scored on all five of their penalty kicks.

The final between Sporting and Super Gauteng started on a high note, thanks to a goal from Ntombi (Neymar) Zwane of Sporting. The team’s second goal was scored by Surprise Chaba five minutes before the final whistle blew, giving Sporting the championship title with their 2-0 victory.

Mpheroane, the organiser of the event, said: “We are working with all the coaches to make sure we improve our ladies’ soccer in the community. I wish that one day I will get sponsors to make sure that we grow the confidence of the ladies.

“One thing I realised was that we should get sponsors that will donate sanitary towels and sports bras to boost the women’s confidence.”

Their next games will be on December 16.

Those interested in sponsoring the women can call Mpheroane on 076 735 1751.
