Umlilo and Mayengane took the Phillys Games tournament by storm as they opened the tournament with a thriller of match on December 16.
Umlilo walked away with a 5-2 victory.
Last Friday Philly’s Games hosted its draw to determine which teams will face each other in the opening match and which sports ground will be used. From December 16 to 18, soccer fanatics can enjoy football at the Mahlangu Sports Ground in Ivory Park Extension Seven.
Cameron Mathebula, head of communications for Phillys Games, said last year’s top eight teams will automatically have spots in the top 16 rounds, and will be joined by the teams that will win in the first knock-out rounds.
“The top eight waiting to be joined by the other winning teams are Isithembisao FC, Amandla FC, Ama BEE, De Grandiose FC, Ama 10 10, Rebels, Black Posion and Wamtsiba Motho.
“The sports grounds to be used are Sangweni Sports Ground from December 19-21, Phomolong Sports Ground from December 22-23, Esiqongweni Sports Ground on December 24, 27 and 28 and on December 29 Mehlareng Stadium will be used. The final will be held at Makhulong Stadium on December 30,” said Mathebula.
The opening day matches results were: Phanda Phanda 1-1 G-string, Boko Haram 3-0 Amapiano, OMS FC 0-2 Ambassadors and Mayengane 2-5 Umlilo.
