Highlands Park opened their New Year’s Absa Premiership campaign on a high note when they registered a 2 – 1 victory against Polokwane-based Black Leopards.
Played before a packed Makhulong Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the home team dominated this fixture with early signs of bagging all three points.
It didn’t come as a surprise when marksman Mothobi Mvaba opened scoring matters as early as in the 28th minutes of the game.
Following this goal, Highlands Park were in control and pressed hard for more goals, but were let down by poor finishing in front of goals.
And just before half-time, Mokete Mogalia doubled the lead with a beautiful strike that sent the Makhulong Stadium abuzz.
The visitors got a late consolation via penalty which was easily slaughtered by Mwape Musonda in the second stanza.
The Lions of the North are now comfortably sitting on position five with 23 points.
They will be looking to continue their good run when they travel to Johannesburg for a date against the log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, scheduled for tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at the FNB Stadium.
