At 15, softball star Richter has achieved many milestones

The talented teenager was introduced to T-ball at the age of seven at school level and quickly developed a love for the sport.

A promising 15-year-old Edleen softball player has been selected for the All Stars team which will tour the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany this year.

Aidan Richter, a learner at Shangri-La Academy and member of Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club, was part of the u-15 Ekurhuleni schools softball team which competed in the inter-regional tournament at Camp Discovery in December.

He has also been selected to represent the u-18 Gauteng team at the national baseball championships in Cape Town in March.

The talented teenager was introduced to T-ball at the age of seven at school level and quickly developed a love for the sport. He received the award for the best T-baller for Grades one to three.

Richter started playing baseball at club level at the age of 10 and received the award for the most promising player and second best batter for the 2014/2015 season.

In 2017/2018, another award came his way when he was named best fielder for the season. He was selected to represent Gauteng at the national baseball championships in 2018, but was unable to compete due to an accident on his 14th birthday and first day of the tournament.

He fell two storeys through a skylight on the rooftop of the hotel they were staying in during the tournament.

It took him about three months to fully recover, but this did not stop him from returning to baseball. It only made him more determined to achieve his goals and he was again selected to represent Gauteng at the national baseball championships in 2019 where he was selected for the SA Elite training squad.

Richter’s love and passion for the sport has led him to assist as a junior coach for the u-10 team at club level.

In 2018, Richter started playing softball at school level and was selected for the Ekurhuleni schools softball to represent Gauteng East at the inter-regional school tournament in 2018 and again in December 2019.

His mother, Liesl, said they have already started fund-raising for Richter due to the costs of the tour as well as specific sports attire and equipment required.

Anyone who would like to assist can call her on 084 436 3092 for the details of the fund. It is running through Click n Donate.
