One Nation claims 1-0 victory in Ivory Park

One Nation walked away with a 1-0 win against One Nation

One Nation walked away victorious at the off season Kopanong Top 4 Tournament at Kopanong Sports Ground in Ivory Park on January 19.

The Ivory Park-based teams went head to head in the late afternoon match. The two rivals locked horns till the half-time whistle blew, with no goals from both sides.

Coming back in the second half, All Nation showed dominance when they controlled much of the ball possession and created scoring chances. In the 61st minute, it got a chance to change the scoring boards but the ball deflected into a corner kick. As the game continued, signs of strains started to be visible among players and the level of concentration dropped, creating an opportunity for One Nation to get the ball at the back of the net, having a 1-0 lead against All Nation in 78 minutes.

Towards the end of the match, All Nation missed out on an equalising opportunity when the ball, stricken by Sizwe Nkosi from a free kick, missed a goal.

All Nation FC’s coach Elphus John Kubayi said his boys showed composure and hunger to win, but failed to use their opportunities which resulted in a loss for them.

“We need to go back to the drawing board and fix the scoring issue because the boys can play very well in the field. We have no excuses because we just failed to get the ball behind the goal keeper,” said Kubayi.

While One Nation celebrates its victory, it has to keep in mind that there is a wounded lion in their den, All Nation, which is going to seek revenge soon.

Jeffery “MaJeff” Mathe, coach of the winning team, took a moment to congratulate his boys for a great play.

He said his team played much better, especially in the last remaining 20 minutes of the game.

“We tried to do substitutions which contributed greatly into winning the match. In the first half, we saw that the boys were using their wingers to press on counter attacks so in the second half, we had to put on players to close the gaps in between,” said Mathe.
