One Nation defeats Thembisa FC

Going forward, we also need to work on our striking force because we do not have that striking power

Thembisa FC went head-to-head against the high flying One Nation at Kopanong Sports Ground, in Ivory Park, on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams clashed once again during the first round of the Kasi Street Tournament semi-finals.

Though the gloomy clouds promised rain, these two teams stopped at nothing to tear each other apart.

They held each other 0-0 till the final whistle, forcing the game to go to the penalty shoot-out. One Nation goalkeeper made the first save that would secure a victory for his team, which won 5-4. Although they won, One Nation will have to wait until next Sunday to play the finals after it was postponed because of bad weather.

Thembisa FC coach Joel Mokoka said he is playing with a new squad, compromising players who are still under the age of 17 and still gaining experience.

One Nation’s goal keeper makes the first save on the penalty shoot-out, which secured them the victory.

“The majority of my players are still in high school and they lack experience. We got the skill and the speed, we just need to work on our combination passes.

“Going forward, we also need to work on our striking force because we do not have that striking power.”

One Nation coach Jeffery Mathe said, “Coming to the second round, we had to put more flexible players in the middle field to try and spread the ball through the wingers and charge forward.”

“They had the speed so we needed to slow them down and gain possession because in the first half, all we did was to defend,” continued Mathe.

“Once we closed them down we managed to dominate; unfortunately, they have a good goal keeper. We couldn’t score till the penalties decided otherwise,” concluded Mathe
