Kempton Park junior cricketers take to the pitch

Kempton Park Junior Cricket Club’s 2021/22 season kicked off with the club entering a total of 14 junior cricket teams in the Eastern Junior Club Cricket Association league.

Result of week 1 (October 22 and 23) fixtures were:
• u-8 Impala vs Avion, Kempton won by seven wickets.
• u-8 Carnival vs Old Bens, Kempton won by seven wickets.
• u-10 Impala vs Kwa-Thema, Kempton won with 183 runs.
• u-10 Sun vs Bedfordview, Kempton lost by 61 runs.
• u-10 Carnival vs Wattville, Kempton won by eight wickets.
• u-12 Sun vs Duduza, Kempton lost by 37 runs.
• u-12 Carnival Kempton 1 vs Kempton 2, Kempton 1 won by two wickets.
• u-12 Andrew Grobler vs Daveyton, Kempton won by 33 runs.
• u-14 Impala 1 vs Wattville, Kempton won by nine wickets.
• u-14 Impala 2 vs Geluksdal, Kempton won by 200 runs.
Highlights from week one included the u-12 Sun Kempton interclub derby which saw the u-12 Carnival 1 and u-12 Carnival 2 teams battle it out in a tightly contested game.
The Carnival 2 team lost by two wickets and the game saw great bowling from Logan van Niekerk who took four wickets.
In the u-10 Kempton Sun vs Bedfordview match, the best batsman was Luanro Schlebusch who scored 31 runs followed by Ewan van Wyk with 22.
Best bowlers were Ethan Mackay 0/10 and Luan van Wyk 1/22.
Schlebusch was also man of the match.
In the u-10 Kempton Impala match against Kwa-Thema, the locals batted first and scored 273/3 and Kwa-Thema was bowled out for 90. Kempton won by 183 runs.
In the u-14 Kempton Impala 1 match against Wattville, Kempton won by nine wickets after the local lads bowled first restricting opposition to 53 runs.
Francois Marais picked up 5/12 in his three overs and Phenyo Miyen celebrated figures of 2/5 in his two overs.
The runs were chased down in seven overs with Stian de Villiers scoring 37 runs.
Rain played havoc for most of the planned cricket fixtures for the second week.
Result of week 2 fixtures were:
• u-10 Carnival 1 vs Benoni, Kempton won by 64 runs.
• u-10 Carnival 2 vs Geluksdal, Kempton won by 52 runs.
• u-8 Impala vs Tsakane, Kempton won with 10 wickets.
• u-10 Sun vs Benoni, Kempton won by eight runs.
• u-12 Sun vs Boksburg, Kempton won with seven wickets.
Highlights included the u-10 Kempton Sun team’s match against Benoni when Kempton won by eight runs. Best batsmen were Liam du Toit (40 runs) and Ethan Mackay (25 not out).
Best bowlers were Ryan Burger (4/2) and JP van der Merwe (11/1). The man of the match went to du Toit.
In the u-10 Kempton Carnival 2 vs Geluksdal match, Kempton won the toss and scored 149/ from 20 overs.
NW Viljoen scored 49 not out and was also man of the match.
The supporting batsmen was Morgan Cooney scoring 12 of 9 balls and the best bowler was Dean Eybers 3/12 in 2 overs.
Result of week 3 fixtures were:
• u-8 Impala vs Kwa Thema, Kempton won by 26 runs.
• u-12 Andrew Grobler vs Elsburg, Kempton won with six wickets.
• u-10 Carnival 2 vs Wattville, Kempton won due to bylaw (forfeit).
• u-14 Impala 2 vs Springs Old Boys, Kempton won by 57 runs.
Highlights included the u-10 Kempton Carnival 2 vs Wattville match played at Willowmore Park in Benoni.
Kempton batted first and posted 67 runs.
The game saw inspired bowling and fielding by the Kempton boys to defend their score.
The best batsman on the day was Michael Herbst with a defiant 9 not out, the best bowler was Morgan Cooney with 2/11 runs in three overs, while the man of the match was Ethan McKay with a good all-round batting and bowling performance on the day.
