Dates for dance, theatre and poetry festivals across Gauteng have been announced
The road to the 2018 Gauteng iShashalazi Theatre Festival is heating up with dates announced for the final stretch of auditions taking place until March.
iShashalazi is part of the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation creative arts programme aimed at identifying, nurturing and exposing talent in performing arts within the province.
It continues to be an important conveyor-belt in the development of the best of community theatre and theatre in general.
Since April, community dance and theatre groups including poets across the province have been showcasing their talents to audition for a final cut into the last 60 contestants for the provincial festival happening in March, next year.
A total of 25 dance and theatre groups all selected from the five Gauteng regions; Ekurhuleni, Westrand, Johannesburg, Sedibeng and Tshwane will compete for the coveted prizes of R10 000 and R15 000 for dance and theatre respectively.
Also to compete for the top prize, albeit only for cash, are the 10 poets selected from the regional auditions.
The dance genres include contemporary, traditional, pantsula and hip-hop.

November 25 – Kwa-Thema Civic Centre
December 3 – Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre – Tembisa
February 4 – O R Tambo Cultural Precinct – Wattville
February 10- Moses Molelekwa arts Centre – Tembisa
All auditions start at 9am till late and registration forms are available at all regional offices or at the venues.
