Annalakshmi’s African Adventure at Emperors Palace

Annalakshmi tackles family, social, economic and political issues in South Africa.

Where do you go when you’re trying to get away from your monster mother-in-law?

If you’re Annalakshmi (Anasia Govender), then it’s a different country and a different continent altogether.

Annalakshmi’s African Adventure is a hilarious musical comedy about being an Indian national taking refuge in South Africa. This one-woman-show will take place for the first time on a Joburg stage on March 24 at Emperors Palace.

It delves into the experiences of Annalakshmi in South Africa and navigates her way through Mzansi’s unique politically and culturally charged landscape.

Anasia Govender is a 42-year-old mother of three and an entrepreneur. She is also the chef and owner of Chilli Kadhai Restaurant in Durban.

It all started with her video advertising the restaurant, where she gave Ed Sheeran’s song, Thinking Out Loud, her own twist.

Using traditional and contemporary Indian and English music, Annalakshmi tackles family, social, economic and political issues, including “the political Bollywood-style love story between JZ and the Guptas”.

Tickets are available from R180 a person through Computicket or the Emperors Palace Box Office.
