PG13 to show off new EP at music event on Saturday

Tembisa Lifestyle Market hosts PG13’s first Extended Play.

The PG13 music group and Tembisa Lifestyle Market will stage the AftA Skul music event on August 18 at 2pm where PG13 will be launching their first Extended Play (EP) titled He’Kaya.

Angela Mthembu, spokesperson for the group, said the EP was released on August 9 to acknowledge the continuous struggle of women.

“He’Kaya is a word derived from Swahili meaning ‘legends’.

“The EP pays homage to Busi Mhlongo, Zim Ngqawana, Miriam Makeba and Moses Molelekwa with its evocative spoken word and ancestral awakening vocals that resonate deeply within the ethnicity of radical African sounds,” said Mthembu.

The venue, Tembisa Lifestyle Market, is situated on the corner of Seagul Street and Brian Mazibuko Drive in Sangweni Section, Tembisa.

“There will be food and drinks that can be purchased at the venue.

“The admission fee is R20. In celebration of the EP, PG13 invited three other bands to play alongside them.

“These bands are Rainbow Abomination, The Sun Xa Experiment and Mo_Soul,” said Mthembu.

She said PG13 will also, during their EP tour, feature children of legends like Moses Molelekwa and Phillip Tabane.

Zoe Molelekwa will be featured on keys and a performance will be done by Thabang Tabane.

“PG13 was described by Jozi Unsigned as an ‘intoxicating cocktail of poetry infused mbaqanga served with a side of saucy jazz seamlessly enchanting willing audiences to dance and leaving many wanting more’.

“It is this mixture that led them to the first-ever Afropunk Johannesburg battle of the bands final in Tembisa.”

Mthembu said PG13 aspires to tell African tales through song and dance done by the marriage of evocative poetry and ancestral awakening vocals that resonates deeply with the ethnicity of radical African sounds.

“They are a race and gender-blended band looking to spark a new narrative at Tembisa Lifestyle Market, which is a space for creatives, art creators and entrepreneurs.

“Tembisa Lifestyle Market is a platform for young people to promote their businesses, goods and services.

“Its main focus is to promote local industries.

“Tembisa has huge potential to become a big role player in the South African economy and tourism industry.
