Former learners make a difference by donating school shoes
School shoes donated to disadvantaged learners.
Already preparing for next year’s school calendar, the Friends of Masisebenze Comprehensive School, based in Jiyana Section, donated school shoes to learners coming from disadvantaged backgrounds.
To date, the organisation donated a total of 200 school shoes to learners of this school.
Handing over these items on Thursday, the organisation’s secretary, Vusi Baloyi, said they were touched by the level of poverty some of the learners at the school had to contend with.
“The idea to get involved was conceived after a group of former learners of this school came together to discuss a re-union. And when discussing that re-union, we noticed that a number of learners were attending school without full proper school uniform. And so we decided that instead of just coming here and partying, let us do something that would leave a legacy, something that would bring change. And so this idea of permanently adopting this school came into fruition,” explained Baloyi.
The Friends of Masisebenze Comprehensive School, is a non-profit organisation made up of former students at this school. And to make a difference, they go around asking for donations, which they in-turn use to look after the school’s needs.
“We are grateful to our funders, Amahle Consulting, Coca-cola and Nokokhokho Private Company for their gesture. Through their generosity, we were able to buy laptops, notepads, tablets, printers and computers for both the school and the learners. We are now done with donating shoes, and, next week, we will be distributing full school uniform.
We can only hope and pray that these learners will make good use of these shoes to help them reach their destiny,” concluded Baloyi.
