Two add bribery to list of charges

Between February 20 and 22, officers from the Benoni Flying Squad arrested two suspects, recovered three motor vehicles and a large quantity of drugs.
On February 20 at around 20:30, officers pulled over a blue Renault Kwid on N12 driving towards Johannesburg.
A search was conducted of the two occupants and vehicle, which lead to the recovery of 48 bottles of illegal cough syrup.
When questioned, the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe officers with R3 000.
The suspects were arrested and the vehicle was impounded for use in the commission of a crime.
The suspects will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court facing charges of possession of illegal substance and bribery.
On February 22, officers followed up on information about drugs that lead them to Setlula Street, Ext 11, Tsakane.
On arrival at the premises, a suspect was seen escaping over a wall.
“When the officers approached the house, they were overwhelmed by the smell of dagga, which is typically near a large quantity,” said the unit’s spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.
“Inside the house, members came across eight large bags of dagga estimated at approximately 300kg. The search for the suspect continues while the dagga was handed in as an exhibit,” he said.
In further policing three abandoned motor vehicles were recovered, a white Isuzu at Kanana Section, Rabie Ridge reported stolen on a Rabie Ridge case, a silver Volkswagen Polo at Ixaba Section, Thembisa reported hijacked on a Thembisa case and another white Isuzu at Essellen Park, Norkem Park reported hijacked on a Secunda case.
Investigation continues on all cases.
