GALLERY: It takes a village to cure a child

A petroleum company hired local artist Ponani 'Ocean' Mukhansi and some of his friends, Thabo Rhalibala and Jay Hannes to paint the whole Childrens Ward at Letaba Hospital with colourfull cartoons for the children.

CALTEX Pondo Motors are a testament to being part the village after donating to the paedetric ward at Letaba Hospital.

The petroleum company hired local artist Ponani ‘Ocean’ Mukhansi and some of his friends, Thabo Rhalibala and Jay Hannes to paint the whole ward with colourful cartoons for the children.

The outgoing manager of Caltex Pondo Motors, Joey Schambriel, has been working on the project for the past two months together with the help of the artists. Team Pondo also donated heaters, an urn (for boiling water) and replaced two broken windows in the ward.

“We are happy because the whole ward is beautiful and colourful, but we felt that the drawings were not enough so we bought the heaters and urn so that the kids can stay warm this winter,” explained Jaco Lee, incoming manager at Caltex Pondo Motors.

Lee also acknowledged the help of Northern Aluminium who assisted with the windows.

“It is a pleasure for us to give back to the community. We as a hospital appreciate what Caltex Pondo Motors has done for us, because as the public sector we are not able to address all the challenges that this country is facing, and we welcome the assistance of the private sector.

“Thank you for the true gesture of giving without expecting anything in return, may God bless your business for standing in the gap,” said Mcdonald Sibuyi, Letaba Hospita CEO. Among other attendees were some of the admitted kids with their parents, nurses, doctors and the hospital management.
