Seven suspects were arrested following an armed robbery at Mooketsi Hardware and Supermarket on Friday evening.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kgamedi Seshoka said three armed men robbed the owner of the business of an undisclosed amount of money soon after closing the shop at around 18:00.
Seshoka said the suspects disappeared in a Husky mini-bus and a Toyota conquest. Police who were investigating the robbery spotted a suspicious looking BMW parked at the garage not far from the crime scene.
“They searched the car and found four live ammunition and mining explosives. They arrested four suspects who led them two Bolobedu where the three armed robbery suspects were also arrested,” he said.
Seshoka said some of the suspects were positively linked to an attempted Automated Teller Machine (ATM) bombing at Mooketsi Super Market a week ago. He added that police have confiscated three cars used by the suspects.
He said the type of explosives found with the suspects and the once found following an attempted ATM bombing are normally used in the mines.
He appealed to anyone who might have fallen victim to the suspects driving a yellow BMW, maroon Husky minibus or a fawn coloured Toyota conquest to contact Modjadjiskloof Police at 015 309 1700 or 0860010111.
At the time of going to press, the seven suspects aged between 17 and 48 years old were expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate on charges of armed robbery , attempted ATM bombing and possession of explosives.
