WARNING:GRAPHIC CONTENT – Dog set alight

The Phalaborwa SPCA received a complaint two weeks ago informing them that a brown and white female cross-breed dog had been set alight using petrol.

Upon the SPCA’s arrival at the property in the Boelang area were the dog was kept, large burns could be seen on the dog’s body, legs and face.

She also had worms in the wounds on her front legs and appeared to be in a great amount of pain.

The dog was allegedly set alight because  she was eating the neighbour’s chickens.

The SPCA immediately took her to a veterinary practice in town to be assessed.

The veterinarian however felt that due to the extent of her wounds it would just add to her suffering to keep her alive and she was euthanised.

The Phalaborwa SPCA has opened a case against the suspect and he will be charged under the Animals Protection act no 71 of 1962 (Section2).

Kerry-Lynn Gerber, inspector at Phalaborwa SPCA urges the public to report acts of animal cruelty.

“The Phalaborwa SPCA would like to encourage the public to report any kind of animal cruelty as the public serve as the eyes and ears of the SPCA” Gerber said.

The Phalaborwa SPCA can be contacted on 015 781 2415 / 082 494 2147. The Tzaneen SPCA can be contacted on: 015-307 2611.
