UPDATE: Police win battle at The Oaks – 10 arrested

Police have won the battle for law and order at The Oaks on the R36, but the war might not be over.

The Oaks protest on the R36 between Hoedspruit and Tzaneen has ‘finally’ ended.

This is according to police spokesman  Lt Col Ledwaba.

He said ten suspects were arrested during the protests for public violence and will be appearing in court soon.

On Wednesday morning police and Farmwatch members went into the barricaded area and started a cleanup operation.

By the afternoon, the road was open for traffic once again.

Community members still added their grievances to Hoedspruit Herald that they would not stop fighting until their demands for the demarcation of the land for a mall be met.

The Herald advise motorists to try and avoid the area still.
