GNT bus: Investigation continues

Acting CEO of Great North Transport, Nkensani Hlungwane, together with the company's Marketing Communications Manager, Patrick Monkoe, visited Tzaneen today for talks with the relevant authorities and other role players regarding the funeral for the victims of Sunday's tragic bus accident on the Georges Valley Road.

According to Hlungwane, it is still too soon to comment, as the investigation into the state of GNT’s fleet of busses is still under way. Earlier in the week their fleet was visited and inspected by Traffic Department officials. Some buses were found to be unroadworthy and were impounded.

Yesterday another of the GNT’s busses was involved in a accident in Tzaneen. At the moment, after initial investigations, it seems that the bus was pulled over on the side of the road when the accident took place. A taxi allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle on the wrong side of the yellow line, and hit the stationary bus.

When shown a photo of the state of the tyres belonging to yesterday’s bus, Hlungwane claimed that every bus, including this one, is inspected every day before starting its daily route. He promised to get in contact with the Herald tomorrow with a copy of yesterday’s inspection report.
