BREAKING NEWS: SAMWU strike in Phala turns violent

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality's South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) members were involved in a violent strike this morning.

The workers damaged some windows, threw rubbish and raw sewer in the reception area leading to the Mayor, Speaker, MM and CFO’s offices.

They also threw rubbish outside the entrance and on the road nearby Woolworths and Spur and some motorists had to use alternative roads.

The workers are alleging that council excluded a proposed organizational structure when adopting the 2016/17 Integrated, Development Plan, Budget and Performance Management System last Friday in the activity hall citing that they won’t approve it as the new council is due after the August 3 Local Government Elections.
