GIYANI: Shop set on fire, two dead

A hardware store was set alight on Wednesday night following the death of two men who were beaten and locked in a refrigerator in Giyani.

It is alleged that the trouble started when three men entered a shop with fake receipts and wanted to take groceries.

After the shop owners realized that the men were in possession of fake receipts, they allegedly beat them before locking them in a refrigerator.

Giyani police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Thomas Makhubele said one of the men died inside the fridge while the other one died in hospital and the remaining one is in critical condition in a local hospital.

Makhubele said five foreign nationals who are shop owners have been arrested and charged with two counts of murder and attempted murder.

They are appearing in court today (Thursday).

He confirmed that a hardware store was set alight on Wednesday night but no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police investigations are continuing.
