SAPS medal parade a huge success

The South African Police Services (SAPS)hosted the Medal parade at Zebra sports Ground at Ga-Sekgopo on Friday.

Ga-Sekgopo village was chosen as the host place because it is one of the hot spot areas in the province on violent crimes, mob attacks and killings. A person was killed recently in the area and community members went on a rampage to trace the suspects, one person was caught and he was assaulted to death.

They also burnt a satellite police station. The two in one event was used to spread the word on crime awareness as well as award loyal and dedicated officers who have served the SAPS with pride and dignity for years.

The medals were awarded to officers who have served for 20, 30 and 40 years with loyalty. Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba addressed the community members of Ga-Sekgopo and surrounding areas on safety awareness including the prevention of mob attacks and killings. MEC of Transport and Community safety, Nandi Ndalane congratulated and commanded the officers who received the medals.

“We are gathered here to celebrate dedication, selflessness, hard work by our men and women in blue for their service in the South African Police. I have been informed that some of you have spent unbroken record of 40 years in service. This without a doubt is a big sacrifice that you have given to your country and province,” she said.

She also encouraged them to continue doing their jobs with pride and bravery.

“I am aware that resources may not be adequate in order for you to better provide services to the communities. This is therefore the responsibility of leadership to work harder in order to provide a conducive working environment to our men and women in blue,” she added.

In her speech she also encouraged community members to work together with the police to stop crime.

“I want to believe that as community members we have information about individuals who perpetrate crime in this community. We therefore cannot afford to keep quiet and let criminals torment us. It is time for each one of you to take a stand against crime. We must all declare crime as our enemy, said the MEC.
