Fallen hero laid to rest in Giyani

The police officer who was killed last Tuesday (Match 7) while on duty was laid to rest on Saturday (March 11) at Ndengeza Village outside Giyani.

Constable Vincent Mhangwani (38) was given a full military funeral.

The deceased was killed in line of duty while attending to a business robbery last Tuesday.

Colleagues, family, friends and top police management from Giyani Cluster led by Major General Mbazima Ngobeni.

“Mhagwani was a dedicated policeman who paid the ultimate price on the line of duty,” said Major Gen Ngobeni on behalf of Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba.

Lieutenant Gen Ledwaba assured Mhangwani’s family that the swiftness shown by the police in arresting the suspects will be also be shown through out until the case is decided in court.

Meanwhile the four suspets who were arrested for shooting Mhangwani were denied bail on Friday (March 10) at the Giyani Magistrate Court.

Antonio Ngobeni (42), Armando Mandlazi (40), Santos Novela (39) and Dan Mkhabela (41) appeared at court on charges of murder, business robbery and possession of illegal firearms.

The case was remanded to March 23 and the fifth suspect, Sabato Fernado (33), died at the hospital.
