TZANEEN: Elderly’s lives made easy by local bank
"For five years we have been struggling, we have been requesting donations from different organisations but to no avail."
A local bank came to the aid of an elderly people project in Lenyenye recently.
African Bank, in Tzaneng Mall, donated the following to Fola Moya Project. A fridge, stove, sewing machines, microwave, beads and accesories, tables and chairs.
The project’s mission is to feed, provide a holistic care to the elderly in the community, to provide compassion, emotional support, recreational facilities and activities that will assist in improving their health and mental state.
Founder of Fola Moya, Grace MaponyaMrs collects the elders in the morning from their homes using her car (4 loads) and also takes them back at day-end.
“For five years we have been struggling, we have been requesting donations from different organisations but to no avail but African Bank saw it fit to come to our aid,” Said Matilda Matatane, one of the elders.
The elders were singing songs joyfully and had even composed a song for African Bank thanking them for their contribution.
Buffet lunch and drinks were also organised for the event.
African Bank hosts Community Champion Awards which is a fund that is available for all employees to apply in order to assist organizations and groups of people in need.
Maggy Monama Letsoalo, Branch Manager Tsaneng Mall entered the competition.
She was nominated as a winner for the two projects she had chosen Fola Moya Project and Worhsip God Together Ministry (which was bought a keyboard, speakers and a mixer).
The project provides comprehensive care for the old.
(they have been cooking with ground fire for five years),sewing machines, microwave, beads and beads accessories, tables and chairs.
During the event, they had already created accessories from the beads that the bank had bought for them. The beads and items sewn by the elders are sold as to create funds for them to be able to buy food, disposable nappies and other items that they need.
The elders cried tears of joy when receiving the items bought for them by the bank. They were all dressed up in their uniform.
Dimakatso Sekgobela (Regional Manager) and Abel Mokgehle from African Bank also attended the Handover event. Dimakatso officially handed over the items to the founder Mrs Grace Maponya.
Other attendees: Councillor Justice Ramodipa who thanked African Bank for the contribution.Archie Maponya: board chairperson, Mrs Mary Maake – vice secretary, Pastor Ramathoka (one of the elders) gave a speech. Saying for five years they have been struggling.
They have been requesting donations from other companies but were failing.
They never approached African Bank but the bank itself saw their needs and offered to help.
