Members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit in Giyani have cracked a case in which a one-year-old girl was raped at Nkomo village last week.

Following an intensive and thorough investigation, the 23-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 20 February.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the suspect, who also resides in the same village, will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday) on a charge of rape.

The Cluster Commander of Giyani, Major General Mbhazima Ngobeni, has thanked the community, who worked closely with the police to ensure that justice is served.

“We salute the community, who assisted in the apprehension of the suspect. Partnership policing will ensure that all criminal elements are rooted out of our society. Criminals live amongst us and if we isolate them, they will have no place to hide and we will put them behind bars,” he concluded.
