Police in Mphephu, outside Thohoyandou, are investigating a case of culpable homicide after an accident along the Maangani and Tshituni road.

According to police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the accident occurred on Saturday when two motor vehicles (a combi and a double cab) were travelling in opposite directions when they collided head-on.

“Five people were killed and eight people sustained serious injuries and were immediately taken to the Siloam hospital for medical treatment,” he said.

The deceased are were identified as follows :
– Humbulani Manena (37) – the combi driver.
– Mudzumbamo Tshidavhu (23) – the double cab driver.
– Takalani Ndangula (3).
– Jearratha Mudau (22).
– Duncan Mudzwari (4) .
