A 32-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life at Mhingaville in Saselemana outside Giyani last week.

The gruesome discovery of the bodies of the couple, Gezani Donald Mahori (32) and Fortunate Shopola (25) was made by the police on Sunday at about 17:00 who were alerted to the house by neighbours who had not seen the duo for three days prior to the discovery.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said neighbours alerted the police after seeing flies around the couple’s house.

Mahori was found hanged inside the house and his wife was found lying dead inside the toilet with multiple stab wounds throughout her body.

Ngoepe said the motive behind the deaths is not known but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.

“Members of the community are encouraged to seek professional help if they have problems with their partners rather than resorting to violence,” said Ngoepe.

Police investigations are continuing.
