LEVUBU: 8 vehicles to be smuggled out of SA confiscated by police

“The trucks are estimated at R24 million and preliminary police investigations have revealed that they were stolen in other provinces and were allegedly en-route to be smuggled out of the country.”

A 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicles in Levubu.

According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, concerted efforts to deal with incidents of theft of motor vehicles and cross-border crimes in Limpopo, joint operations which were running till this morning, 15 April, continue to successfully crack the whip on these syndicates.

“In Levubu, outside Thohoyandou, a sting operation was conducted thanks to a tip-off about a motor vehicle theft syndicate in various provinces from the community. In the process, a 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles in Mashau Thenga village,” he said.

During the arrest, five tipper trucks and three water tank trucks were confiscated.

“The trucks are estimated at R24 million and preliminary police investigations have revealed that they were stolen in other provinces and were allegedly en-route to be smuggled out of the country.”

Ngoepe says the origin of the trucks is still being determined through ongoing police investigations.

“The suspect will appear before the Levubu Magistrates Court soon and more arrests are expected.”
