Welcome GTM’s new municipal manager

Newly appointed Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s (GTM) Municipal Manager, Thapelo Matlala, says he is ready to take the municipality to another level.
Matlala ays that he believes that GTM has the potential to be the best municipality in Limpopo.
“I believe Tzaneen is the most beautiful town in the province and has a great potential, given the right leadership and commitment it can become Limpopo’s economical hub,” said Matlala.
He officially started work on April 3 and was welcomed at a small ceremony at the Civic Centre’s Council Chambers.

He boasts more than twenty years of local government experience to his name.
Before his appointment with GTM he was the Provincial Executive Officer of SALGA in Limpopo and says he is satisfied with the state he left the organisation at.
“I’m leaving SALGA a very happy man, because it is a strong institution with strong systems and it is among the best performing in the country.
He was born and bred at Galeshewe Township in Kimberley during the diamond mining rush to a mine worker.
After high school he went to the then Mangosuthu Technikon in Durban where he studied and finished his municipal administration qualification.
Some of his academic qualifications include a BTech with the former Rand Afrikaans University (Universiy of Johannesburg), Advanced Diploma in Labour Law with UNISA and he is in the process of finishing his Masters degree.
During his time in office he promises to work on the following; clean audit in the next one to two years, fix the electricity infrastructure, CBD renewal, improve water access for the community of Tzaneen, 2050 Tzaneen City Vision and improve customer service satisfaction.
In his spare time he gets adventurous in the kitchen, cooking meals for his family, going through his library of more than 3500 books and speaks more than seven languages.
He currently has two houses in Polokwane and Johannesburg and is planning to stay full-time in Tzaneen.
The father of three promises to give his all to the community of GTM.
