Peligent Baloyi (21), Conny Tshwale (36),Thabo Ngobeni (40) and six juveniles are facing charges of public violence, common robbery, malicious damage to property and possession of suspected stolen properties.

The trio were each given R3000 bail while the minors were released into parental custody. Their cases were postponed to June 8, pending further police investigations.

The protest started last Tuesday when residents went on a rampage, barricading the roads at Mooketsi with debris, stones, trees and burning tyres.

This in protest against lack of progress for upgrading the road from Mageva to Makhuva from gravel to tar as promised by Limpopo Provincial Department of Public Works, Roads & Infrastructure and the Road Agency Limpopo.

The protest intensified on Wednesday where police members of the Public Order Policing used rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the crowd after a delivery truck was set alight.

Spokesperson for the protesters, Richard Ntlemo, said they have postponed the protest indefinitely after meeting the MEC for Public Works, Roads & Infrastructure, Nandi Ndalane.
