There was a ship called Tzaneen…

Believe it or not, there was a ship that was set ashore with the name SA Tzaneen.

Three refrigerated motor ships “S.A.Letaba”, “S.A.Tzaneen”, and “S.A.Drakenstein” were built for the export of frozen fruit from South Africa to the UK and Europe.

They were built in Scotland and entered service in the mid 1960’s.

The ships had the same design as dutch built ships but with a different make of main engine, which consists of a nine cylinder type two stroke low speed diesel engine and could sail at a speed of 17 knots.

For electrical power four diesel engines drove the alternators.

According to www.shipspotting.com the SA Tzaneen- International Maritime Organization -6411445, the ship were an Asia freezer that also went by four other names: Papagayo Universal (Until 1982)  Tzaneen (Until 1978), S.a.tzaneen (Until 1977) and Tzaneen (Until 1966).
