New executive mayor to speed up service delivery
He urged political parties and other stakeholders to work with the ruling party to create better life for all.
Former Mayor of the BaPhalaborwa Local Municipality, Pule Shayi was sworn-in as the Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality in Tzaneen on Friday.
Shayi’s swearing-in comes after the former Executive Mayor Nkakareng Rakgoale was elevated to the Provincial Legislature where she is serving as MEC for Social Development.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Shayi urged Council and general members of the public to work together to see to it that there’s improved service delivery across the district municipality.
He promised to work towards transforming the district economy, advance social transformation and step up a fight against corruption and safeguard the integrity of the municipality through provision of ethical leadership.

“Infrastructure roll out in relation to water, sanitation and sewerage system will be fast tracked in order for the communities to have clean running water,” said Shayi He further said that internal control would be tightened to give effect to clean governance and usher a new dawn of fighting corruption wherever it rears its ugly head.

“Every party in this council has a lot to contribute for the betterment of our communities and as we do so, let us do it robustly yet constructively,” he added.
Shayi appointed the following councillors to serve as members of the mayoral committee: Former chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee, City Modjadji was appointed Member of Mayoral Committee for Finance, David Maake (MMC for Governance and Shared Services), Mikateko Shimange (MMC for Community Services), Maditshego Sefofi (Water Services), Christina Mohale (MMC for Local Economic Development, Housing and Spatial Planning), Nyiko Baloyi (MMC for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture), Given Malatji (MMC for Infrastructure Development Services), Japisa Mathonsi (MMC for Public Transport and Roads) and Aniki Mathaba was appointed MMC for Agriculture and Environmental Management Services.
