TZANEEN: Primary school learners allegedly deprived of full nutrition
The department of education says that they are investigating into the matter and action will only be taken after the investigation is concluded.
Allegations recently surfaced regarding teachers from a primary school stealing feeding scheme food for themselves last Wednesday.
It is alleged that learners from Ramaite Primary School in Sekgosese are not being given adequately nutritious food because their teachers keep the food products to themselves to take home while the children are given little to go on.
A post on Facebook about the matter gave the following example about the matter, “Instead of sharing 10 liters of milk amongst 30 learners from one classroom as per the nutritional instruction, the teacher only share three litres and the remaining seven litres are taken for home use purpose and not only milk, also some packets of beans and fruits.”

Letaba Herald contacted the source of the post, to which he disclosed that this had been happening for years now.
“When the teachers heard that what they are doing is making waves on social media, they started covering their actions by saying that they aren’t the only school that is doing this in the area. They claimed that teachers from another school not too far from theirs is doing the same thing. However, since this issue was raised and the teachers having started pulling away, there are enough food products to share amongst the children at the school,” stated the source.
Herald got in contact with Limpopo’s Department of Education spokesperson, Sam Makondo regarding the allegations.
“We are aware and that’s why we have launched an investigation into this allegations after which we shall be able to determine the course of action,” stated Makondo.

The circuit manager in the area, along with an investigation team and the feeding scheme tender manager are said to have went to the school last Thursday.
“I have not heard anything from them since they went there on Thursday. People on the board of the school governing body have known about this but never said anything because they were too afraid of having bad things happen to them. But I am very eager and willing to see something done to rectify this issue,” the source stated.
Herald will keep following the story and updates regarding the matter will be given when available.
