Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) closes shop during lockdown
The municipality had discussions with the Department of Home Affairs for essential services, such as issuing death certificates, that will remain available.

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) will close their offices during the 21-day lockdown with only essential services operating.
Municipal services such as water, electricity, waste collection and traffic will operate as normal.
“It is very important that we limit our movement, we encourage people to stay in their homes unless there is an emergency,” said Neville Ndala, spokesperson of GTM.

Clients of the municipality are encouraged to use online services to pay their accounts. They can use their Absa bank account: 405 1444 332 and use their municipal account as reference. Those who want to buy prepaid electricity can register at www.wireit.co.za, this will enable them to buy electricity online.
Capitec clients will be able to purchase electricity from retail stores such as Shoprite and Spar. GTM is in negotiations to find areas which will be announced as quarantine areas, said Ndlala.

He said there are a number of lodges around the area who have volunteered to be used as quarantine sites, but it will first have to be evaluated as fit for quarantine purposes. GTM will make an announcement on the chosen sites before the end of the week.
Councillors attended a training session with health practitioners last week on the coronavirus and how to deal with it. This was to enable them to communicate with the communities and better explain the measures being set out on a local level.
