Tzaneen: Grant for spaza shop owners

Spaza owners are urged to apply for the covid-19 relief fund at the local economical development (LED) offices under Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM).

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) invites all spaza shops owners with permits to access Covid-19 relief.

Shop owners have to first get a letter from their local ward councillor confirming that indeed the store is operating in their ward. Then they have to visit GTM and pay R100 at the local economical development (LED) offices in order to receive a R3500 Nedbank voucher.

“They can only redeem the voucher by buying their stock at any local cash and carry outlet,” explained Neville Ndlala, GTM spokesman.

Street vendors do not qualify for the relief, only South African owned spaza shop owners qualify. Street vendors are selling general items such as sweets, snacks, fruits and vegetables, but spaza shops trade basic household essential items.

They can visit the LED office between 09:00 to 12:00 every Monday to Friday.

For queries regarding the grant, spaza shop owners can contact Modibe Sekgotodi on 073 249 6207. They can also call Freddy Rammalo on 082 809 0454.
