GTM’s licensing office opens with 50 000 backlog
The municipality's spokesperson, Neville Ndlala stated that all licenses which expired during the lockdown from 26 March to 31 May will not be penalised and will receive a 90 days grace period.
Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) announced that their vehicle licensing department opened on Monday.
GTM spokesperson, Neville Ndlala, told Herald that they have been granted authorisation by the department of transport to resume with all licensing services from 1 June on a 60% staff capacity.
“We have complied with all Covid-19 requirements. All our licensing offices (Tzaneen civic center, Tzaneen testing station and Nkowankowa testing station) will be open from 07:00 to 16:00 Mondays to Fridays,” he said.

“We will give priority to licenses which expired in March and April until we catch up with the backlog which stands at approximately 50 000. All licenses which expired during the lockdown from 26 March to 31 May will not be penalised and will receive a 90 days grace period. We request those whose licenses expired between May and June to use the grace period.”
He said this will enable them to effectively enforce social distancing and other measures required to combat Covid-19.

“We will screen everyone coming into our premises, including our employees, for Covid-19. Clients are expected to adhere to social distancing requirements whilst in our premises. We will allow only a very small number of people into the service center at any given time, the rest will be accommodated outside awaiting their turn.
“We urge all our customers to be patient as processes will take longer due to regular sanitising of surfaces and equipment.” No new bookings will be done at testing stations until we have cleared the backlog, he said.
