MEC wants justice to prevail in 14-year-old’s rape case

A ward councillor at the Greater Letaba Municipalty council abandoned his bail application when he appeared at the Bolobedu magistrate court on Thursday.

The councillor who is a member of the ANC and accused of raping a 14-year-old girl stated that he wanted to further consult his lawyer.

The rape incident occurred on Saturday 3 October, after 58-year-old Lawrence Seshoka offered the victim a lift.

Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo previously told the Herald that Seshoka then drove into the bushes next to Rampepe village where he allegedly raped the victim.

“He thereafter reportedly took her home, gave her money and a cellphone and told her not to tell anyone.

The child started crying when questioned by her mother about the cellphone. She then told her what happened. The matter was reported to the police and the councillor was arrested,” said Mojapelo.

Limpopo MEC for Social Development Nkakareng Rakgoale attended Seshoka’s court appearance on Thursday and told the media that she wants justice to prevail.

A group of ANC Women’s League also chanted outside court calling for the court not to grant bail to the suspect as he is facing serious charges.

MEC Rakgoale said government wants to see an end to the Gender Based Violence that are happening in many parts of the province. Seshoka will appear again on 19 November for a possible bail application.
