Pothole plan falls behind

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) has released a maintenance schedule for potholes, damaged gravel roads and stormwater pipes to be repaired.

The municipality has assessed the amount of damage the recent rains have caused and as a result, have started with the maintenance, said Neville Ndlala, spokesperson for the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM).

However, it seems as though GTM has already fallen behind schedule with their maintenance plan. According to Ndlala a special material called “hotmeal” had to be ordered to repair the potholes because they are so deep.

GTM is now awaiting delivery. Residents in Tzaneen and surrounding areas have had to deal with the deterioration of the roads in the last few months.

Many have taken to filling the potholes with sand in order for vehicles to move without any difficulty.

“We request patience from our residents due to the abnormally high demand for assistance with road repairs. We sympathise with communities that are suffering because of the current road conditions and we want to assure everyone that we are doing our best to address these challenges,” explained Ndlala.
